Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric SurgeryTM (MSMBSTM)
I’m designated as ‘Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric SurgeryTM, MSMBSTM’ since 2012 by Surgical Review Corporation of USA. Worldwide, this is seen as a marker of quality assurance in patient care. It was previously called ‘Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric SurgeryTM (SOEMBSTM)’ & ‘Bariatric Surgeon of ExcellenceTM (BSOETM)’. I’ve the honour of being the first (and only) Weight-loss/Obesity Surgeon in the UK to achieve this certification.
Book Editor: Obesity, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery: Springer, 2015 & 2024
* I’m an Editor for a book titled ‘Obesity, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery: A Practical Guide’ published by Springer (September, 2015). The book has achieved >273,000 individual chapter downloads electronically worldwide so far.
* Under my editorship, 2nd edition of this book titled ‘Obesity, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery: A Comprehensive Guide’ was published in 2023. The second edition has achieved >61,000 individual chapter downloads electronically worldwide since release within a year. This 2nd edition is part of the prestigious Springer Nature’s Major Reference Works (MRW) program.

Symposium President – London International Bariatric Surgery Symposium (LIBSS) – LIBSS 2019, LIBSS 2021, LIBSS 2022, LIBSS 2023, LIBSS 2024 & LIBSS 2025
I am the President of ‘London International Bariatric Surgery Symposium (LIBSS)’.
* I organised the first symposium ‘LIBSS 2019’ at Homerton University Hospital between 21st-22nd November, 2019 in London – it was attended by approx. 200 attendees (Full House) from 22 countries.
* ‘LIBSS 2021’ was organised virtually on Hubilo Platform on 25th–26th November, 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic – it had over 510 attendees from 45 countries.
* The third edition, ‘LIBSS 2022’ was organised Face-to-Face on 24th-25th November at Grand Sapphire Hotel in London – it was attended by approx. 250 attendees from 28 countries around the world.
* The fourth edition, ‘LIBSS 2023’ was organised at Homerton University Hospital between 23rd – 24th November, 2023 in London – it was attended by over 200 attendees (Full House) from 21 countries around the world. This year, a Hands-on Training Workshop – Bariatric Cadaveric Course for 16 trainees was also organised on 22nd November under my directorship at the Griffin Institute, Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospital, Harrow, Middlesex HA1 3UJ.
* The fifth edition, ‘LIBSS 2024’ was organised at Homerton University Hospital between 28th– 29th November, 2024 in London – it was attended by over 200 attendees (Full House) from 26 countries around the world. Once again, a Hands-on Training Workshop – Bariatric Cadaveric Course for 16 trainees was also organised on 27th November under my directorship at the Griffin Institute, Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospital, Harrow, Middlesex HA1 3UJ.
* The 6th edition, LIBSS 2025, was organized face to face on 27th and 28th November, 2025 at Homerton University Hospital in London. It was an overwhelming success with over 220 attendees (FULL HOUSE) from 31 different countries around the world. The third Hands-on Training Workshop – Bariatric Cadaveric Course was also organised from 25-26th November at the Griffin Institute, Northwick Park & St Mark’s Hospital, Harrow, Middlesex in London.
Symosium Director – London International Robotic Surgery Symposium ( LIRSS)
The inaugural LIRSS will be held on 25th November 2026 at the Homerton University Hospital, Homerton in London.
Director – Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery UK
I am the Director of ‘Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery UK’ – a Charity Company which is set up to promote education and research in the field of bariatrics and metabolic medicine.
Fellowships
* I’ve the honor of being the First Post-CCT Fellow in Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery awarded under National Surgical Fellowship Scheme through the Royal College of Surgeons of England in partnership with Surgical Specialist Associations in Taunton for a year (2009-10).
* I was awarded Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) Bariatric Fellowship in Brugge (Bruges), Belgium for 3months (October–December, 2009).
* I was also awarded Ethicon Short Term Clinical Visit Grant by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for the Gastric Fellowship at National Cancer Center & Cancer Institute Hospital in Tokyo, Japan in September, 2008.
Experiences (Clinical & Academic)
* I had extensive training in UK, Belgium, Japan & India and have an experience of over 1750 laparoscopic bariatric procedures to date. In addition, I have undertaken more than 2500 general surgical procedures so far.
* I train other surgeons in bariatric & laparoscopic surgery.
* I am actively involved in obesity research as Principal Investigator for multiple studies at Homerton.
* I have published widely in peer-reviewed journals, authored chapters in books, and also edited a few books so far.
* I have made numerous presentations (>150) at national & international meetings as well as multiple publications (>130) in peer-reviewed journals.
